Shohei "Giant" Baba vs. World Champion Jack Brisco in a best two out of three falls match (Baba wins title, 20:46, 12/2/74)

PWF champion Shohei "Giant" Baba vs. Abdullah the Butcher in a best two out of three falls match (15:21, 8/31/79)

PWF champion Shoehi "Giant" Baba vs. Stan Hansen (12:39, 2/4/82)

Shoehi "Giant" Baba & Rusher Kimura vs. Stan Hansen & Genichiro Tenryu (Real World Tag League tournament match, 20:22, 11/29/89)

Shoehi "Giant" Baba & Stan Hansen vs. Steve Williams & Big Bubba Rogers (Real World Tag League tournament match, 13:02, 12/5/93)

They picked some good matches to put on this dvd. The NWA title change vs. Jack Brisco is a good choice for its historical importance. There can't be a better feature match then Giant Baba vs Abdullah The Butcher, one hell of a bloodbath, love how Baba goes after Abdulah's fingers to negate the Asian spike and then goes after and bloodies the ear of The Butcher.

The tag match with Rusher vs Tenryu and Hansen is a great great match and you wouldn't expect that from two of these guys. Sure Baba puts on great shows because of his uniqueness and his super-babyface status. But this match is done so well, where Kimura kicks a ton of ass in the beginning after baba is ambushed right at the sound of the bell. Kimura fights his ass off, and its so obvious the guy can't go anymore, but he fights like a champ, gets busted open, and eventually he's knocked out of the match, after taking a beast of a beating, then in comes Baba and they start again. The powerbomb that Tenryu hits to end this match is neck-breaking.

I was just happy to see Big Bossman in an All Japan ring in that last match, boy, Baba didn't look good working here.

1.Curt Hennig vs Jerry The King Lawler AWA 2-21-88
This match was decent for what it was and picked up a little near the end.

2.The Holy Demon Army(Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue) vs Gary Albright and Yoshihiro Takayama AJPW 3-1-97

This is a good tag team match I really like all of these guys. Man it's weird seeing Takayama without the blonde hair and so ripped. The ending was also really surpising considering how rare it seemed to be in 90's AJPW.

3.Dr. Death Steve Williams vs Mitsuharu Misawa AJPW 3-1-97
This match was great. It started out with mat wrestling before turning into an all out fight. Williams was heeling it up in this match.

4.Kenta Kobashi and Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs Jun Akiyama and Kentaro Shiga AJPW 3-1-97

Another good tag match, it was kind of funny because Akiyama and Kobashi were the giants of their teams with Shiga and Kanemau being the smaller quicker guys. There were also some really cool tag spots.

5.Dr. Death Steve Williams vs Owen Strong WCW 11-7-92
Just a squash match ,but it still showed the power of Williams when he was able to recover the Oklahoma Stampede after almost messing up.

1.Dr. Death Steve Williams vs Terry Gordy UWF
This match was good and pretty much a back and forth brawl that descends into chaos (like most Gordy-Williams matches). Gordy could really bump.

2.Terry "Bam Bam Gordy" vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan UWF 8-3-86
Another good match pretty much a brawl with both testing each others strength. Ross was going crazy during this match.

I watched this event because of a couple of wrestlers. Vader & his son, Jessie White for starters, and Luke Gallows is also on the card taking on former NOAH Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Makoto Hashi. Nick primo is Prince Iakeau's son, so that is interesting. Otherwise, this wasn't too hot. The olf WAR guys aren't good, Yokayama isn't that exciting, and Yamamoto looked like he couldn't give a shit, as do most MMA fighters who work in wrestling. Madoka didn't get to hit the Reiha either so.... ho-hum.

Just watched: ROH Straight Shootin': Raven & Sandman Vol. 1 & 2 (2005 & 2006).

These were the greatest things ever. They were two hours each of Raven and Sandman just talking about whatever came to mind, most of it had nothing to do with wrestling. I'm used to Raven being hilarious and a genius, but Sandman was just as good. He calculated how much dirt can fit in an open grave in like three seconds. They transitioned from talking about aqueducts, to the laws of motion involved in making a jetpack work, to Raven getting up and farting in Sandman's face. Most of the stories were about when they were on drugs or who they were having sex with and Raven told one story about him and Sandman's encounter with a thirty foot tall grizzly bear. All of it was amazing.

1.Jack Brisco vs Jumbo Tsuruta AJPW 8-28-76
A good match with alot of matt wrestling and some powerful suplexes from Jumbo.

2.Jumbo Tsuruta vs Genichiro Tenryu AJPW 6-5-89
Another good match. My god Jumbo looks so different here besides obviously looking older he looks so much bigger physically. This was pretty much a back and forth match.

3.Toshiaki Kawada vs Gary Albright AJPW 10-25-95
This is one hell of a match and was one of the first AJPW matches I ever saw. Lots of mat grappling, suplexes, and brawling in this match. Another surpising finish considering it is 90's AJPW.

4.Mistico(Sin Cara) vs Averno 2/3 Match NJPW 1-23-11
This match is pretty good. There is lots of high flying, power moves from Averno, and even a little mat grappling. The way I feel about Mistico(Sin Cara) is that he isn't as good as some peple think ,but at the same time isn't that bad either.

Being totally unfamiliar with this and knowing Abby's reluctance to do jobs, was he actually willing to put over Baba in Japan?

I don't remember, sorry Playboy, but money says it was a double count out after trading pinfalls. in fact I'm 100% positive.

1.Toshiaki Kawada vs Mitsuharu Misawa AJPW 10-21-92
This match started out quick with a brutal backdrop suplex from Kawada followed by mat wrestling with Kawada trying to control Misawa. Eventually it turns into suplex exchanges from both of them. This match is good ,hell every Kawada-Misawa match is.

2.Toshiaki Kawada vs Mitsuharu Misawa AJPW 3-27-93
Misawa started out quickly dominating Kawada who eventually reverses a suplex and gains control. Kawada then keeps trying to wear down Misawa with submissions and every time Misawa gets out gets the hell kicked out of him for his efforts. This match ends with a sudden brutal strike.

3.Takeshi Morishima vs Kensuke Sasaki NOAH 7-10-11
This match was a brutal brawl throughout. It eventually turned into a battle of the lariats with each man trying to prove which was tougher.

I watched some shoots recently. The Godwins wasn't so good. Henry barely spoke and Phineas was drunk off his ass. One cool part though, Phinease said this new kid Punk made him proud to be a wrestler again. This was a couple of years ago, so he knew what he was talking about.

Sounds right. I know when Gary Hart needed him to job, he would trick him and tell him it was 2/3 falls and have him drop the first fall when it was really a one fall match.

1.MVP vs Tomohiro Ishii NJPW 7-3-11
This was a pretty good match. MVP's offense consisted mainly of suplexes, kicks, and submissions while Ishii mainly went for lariats and power moves. I was really surpised at how much sucess MVP has had over there so quickly(he's already a champion) and by the fact that one of his finishers is a crucifix neck crank. After the match there was a run-in by Masato Tanaka.

2.Dr. Death Steve Williams vs Stan Hansen AJPW 6-5-90
Another good match, this one was pretty much a brawl throughout with both of them pretty much exchanging strikes the whole time with only about six actual slams.

3.Toshiaki Kawada vs Mitsuharu Misawa AJPW 7-29-93
This match starts out with the two mainly exchanging strikes ,but things really start to heat up when Misawa mocks Kawada by doing knees instead of the Kawada Kicks. I like how at the end the loser gets rocked with a powerful strike and then finished with a suplex.

How are their iPPVs? I've been wanting to check them out but I'm unsure about it. How is the stream quality? Is it a bunch of hardcore matches? I know Cabana is the Champion so they have that going for them.

1.Dan Kroffat vs Rob Van Dam AJPW 6-9-95
This was one hell of a match. There was plenty of high flying and kicking battles. Kroffat has alot better kicks then I remembered him having. The man was also heeling it up at, one point to counter a springboard move from RVD he just spat in his face. It's also weird seeing how young RVD looks.

2.Vader and Gary Albright vs Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama AJPW 7-23-99
A good match this one saw Albright and Vader domnate for most of the match. Albright's suplexes are so beautiful. It's weirds seeing Kobashi wear some kind of protective mask. It ends after a counter lariat.

3.The Funks vs Bruiser Brody and Jimmy Snuka AJPW 12-13-81
This match was good. Some of the high flying moves were surprising considering the time, there was a springboard splash from Snuka and this crazy diving crossbody to the outside by Terry. It was also quite amusing to see Snuka and Dory have this intense battle over a headlock/headlock takeover with Snuka reversing an atomic drop into a headlock takeover and doing a springboard headlock takeover. Hansen was managing Brody and Snuka and lariated the hell out of Terry at one point too.

ROH, Night of the Butcher. Cabana's first ROH match (vs CM Punk, second or third ROH match) and Chad Collyer is also introduced in a great match with Danielson. Half way through. Gonna get to Abby tonight.

This particular one went down in April. Since i'm not in the States, i torrented it - not sure it reflects the stream quality. Very entertaining: Jimmy Jacobs was still there, Rob Conway, Necro Butcher, Weedman, Sabu, and Cabana in his Officer gimmick. I just dig JCW a lot. The Stranglemania, Bloodymania, JCW Vols. 1 to 3, and both seasons of Slam TV are a lot of fun - i love the crazy commentary -, and the second one is available to view on their channel on You Tube.

As to more recent iPPV's, it's best to check out Psychopathic Live, but there's no upcoming events scheduled - you can check out and even order past ppvs in the Events section.

As far as the matches go, only Necro and Pondo go hardcore. There's fun storylines and some good workers - some have since eloped to ROH, though...

I'll probably check one out then. Their shows are only 5 bucks. I just didn't want to watch a bunch of hardcore matches for no reason. I didn't know what to think because while ICP's music is awful I do like them as people. They pretty much built a huge audience on their own with no help form the radio or any record labels. You really have to respect that.
