A Twitter feud between pro wrestlers Scott Steiner and Hulk Hogan has spilled over into a Davidson County courtroom.

Nashville-based Total Nonstop Action Entertainment, who Hogan works for, filed a verified complaint Monday in Chancery Court asking for an injunction to stop Steiner’s “disparaging remarks.” Steiner made headlines on wrestling blogs and websites in April when he launched a social media campaign to “save” TNA.

In a series of tweets, Steiner bashed TNA, Hogan, and TNA wrestling booker Eric Bischoff. In additional to critical, sometimes profane, comments on Twitter, Steiner called TNA “bush league” and compared them to the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling organization.

TNA is claiming that Steiner’s comments violate a contract he signed with them in December 2010. The contract specifically stipulates that Steiner is forbidden from making public statements, including tweeting, concerning TNA or any of its officers, wrestlers, or other individuals without prior approval. TNA claims those acts constitute a breach of contract.

“In blatant disregard of the parties’ Agreement, Steiner has engaged in a concerted effort to disparage TNA, its wrestlers, and other talent and cast them in a negative light,” the lawsuit stated.

Wait so TNA fires him from his contract and now they are saying he violated his contract.......

Gay. Wrestling needs to man up and not be so faggy.

If WWE did it you would be defending them.

I'd say there is a difference between a wrestling contract and a contract to not bash a company. If it's 2 separate contracts, who knows how long that contract was for.

Like the salesmen at my company sign a non compete contract and also sign a non disclosure contract. The non compete is for 90 days after termination or quitting and the non disclosure is 2 years. Every company should be out to protect itself.

No, depends on the situation if he signed something to the effect of you can have no negative remarks over a period of time thats one thing but if that was only during the time he was employed which is likely true than its a waste of a lawsuit.

You can still violate your contract if you've been released, say a 90 day no compete clause.

This is the dumbest thing TNA has ever done. If anything, they are giving Scott way too much credit and attention that I'm certain he's marking out about it.

I could be wrong but didn't you defend this very thing when ROH pulled it on their old booker?

they can't do that unless its a confidentiality clause. they can't fire him and tell him not to speak his mind. i bet they are not even really doing this in court they just leaked it to the dirt magazines to scare steiner.

I'd have to see the post, my point is it depends on the contract. If Scott Steiner signed a contract that said effective termination or whatever you are barred from making negative statements towards whomever for a 5 year period than TNA has the right to sue.

Problem is this is TNA so they likely don't have that type of contract structured and therefore if its something that was only good until his release from the company its just TNA doing a waste of time lawsuit. It just depends on the contractual terms and regardless TNA is going to have to prove that it was Steiner who wrote these statements

Yeah..... he will. It's just dumb for TNA to even pursue this. Essentially, they are saying that Scott Steiner is such an important and influential public figure that his negative comments toward our product can have a significant effect on our bottomline. This should give Scott tons of material to rant on for years to come.
