The first MLW World Champion "The Franchise" Shane Douglas joined Mister Saint Laurent on MLW Radio presented by www.AdamEve.com, the official podcast of Major League Wrestling. Douglas spoke about deciding to hold his own ECW reunion event after seeing how former ECW stars were treated by TNA during their ECW reunion event.

"After Dixie Carter did her show [Hardcore Justice] and paid the guys a ridiculous sum of money, $250 to go out there and do what we do better than most people do, that to me was just so disrespectful," said Douglas. "For somebody who has been born and raised in a billion dollar household with a silver spoon in her mouth and up her backside, to ask guys to go out there and do that, for that little bit of money and then when it did better than any pay-per-view event in the last five years, didn't even offer so much as an extra penny on top of it.

"I said then and I stand by it, shame on you Dixie Carter that you'd expect anybody to do that in this day and age. At the same time she pays Ric Flair, 62, 63 years old, $35,000 a night. 60 year old Hulk Hogan, $75,000 a night and then somehow figures that these guys that come from ECW just don't have any value or worth at all. I plan on disproving that."

Half the other threads on here aren't news. I just felt like posting it, just for the hell of it. Sometimes I simply like to share.

Dixie is an easy target. She deserves all she gets.

Dixie deserves a lot of crap but so do most promoters I find it funny how Shane douglas is ripping Dixie for the money she paid the roster when he probably isn't doing any better but the worst part is Paul Heyman paid these guys NOTHING! Seriously over the years their has been this weird pretend like Vince McMahon is this Douche Bag promoter and everyone else was better. Now I'm sure McMahon is a d-bag but no one has treated his wrestlers better than Vince. Fritz used two of his sons death for a promotional event, Heyman didn't pay his wrestlers their final years in the business, Watts schedule is laughable by even WWE old schedule standards, I could keep going but there are lot of d-bag promoters out there

nobodty said that promoters weren't a scummy group on the whole but that doesn't mean vkm isn't their figurehead only by virtue of having ran off or bought out every one else
i will admit the fed is surely doing better than they have before but alot of the improvements in my opinion are for the sake corporate optics

look regardless Vince has always paid his performers a hell of a lot more than most other promotions other than WCW but their pay system was just stupid. Big Show put it perfectly he was Worlds Champion and only making 400,000 just because that was his set price regardless of what he was diong. My point with Vince is there is this weird theory in some parts of the internet that Vince McMahon is the devil and does horrible things but when you look at it every wrestling promoter has done some horrible things. some clearly worst than others.

Yea, but that statement only makes sense when it's out of context. Sure Big Show was champion and only making 400,000 a year. But let's look at the facts. He won the title in one of his first matches. He was still in his first year as a wrestler. So I would say 400,000 bucks is a pretty good amount of money. Plus there is no way that the WWE of 2012 is paying their wrestlers as well as WCW was.

Yeah... Big Show defeated Hulk Hogan for the World Heavyweight Wrestling Championship in his first match...

Who cares if its your first match. He's the Worlds Champion and he is only making 400,000 a year. Thats why the downside gurantee was probably the best idea WWE ever came up with since their is a gurantee but your getting chances to make more if a Giant in WCW situation happens. I'm sure a lot of guys got paid more but i think WWE its about who's on top of the card. Guranteed contracts were the worst idea WCW ever had.

The Giant shouldn't have been world champion that quickly. His reign was always overshadowed by something else going on at the time in WCW..... as if his status as champion was secondary. His salary was pretty damn good considering he wasn't even in the business a full year when he won the belt. Everyone knew that guys like Hogan, Flair, Savage and Sting were the figure heads in that company at the time.... making the big bucks. I agree that the champion should be paid one of if not the highest salaries, which is why I don't blame Big Show for feeling the way he did, but it was obvious that WCW didn't book him consistently in a way that made him seem like the top guy in the company.

Why should the "champion" be paid more? It is just a prop...

#BeltFacts But don't call it a belt it's a championship title. A championship title which is worthless.

Who is going to complain about making $400,000 a year, I'd take that any day. Go try to find a real job that pays that. What a giant cry baby...

Since you clearly want to start that fight it is a prop its important one but still a prop. Its not a legit belt.

As for the point When your champion that means your carrying the company and take responsibility for though matches. Ratings, Buyrates, and attendance is partly on your shoulders. Anyone remeber Eddie Guerrero in 2004 having an almost break down when he became Champoin on Smackdown because he was cracking under a pressure which wasn't really there in my opinion but none the less still cracking. You the champion you deserve more money than say Hacksaw JIm Duggan working a pointless Midcard fedu with Bubba Rogers.

Seriously if you get promoted where you work wouldn't you be a little annoyed if the mail room guy was making more cash than you?

If I was at a job where I had no experience and in my first year at the company I was making 400,000 a year I wouldn't be complaining.

Even if someone who is doing less work than you is making a hell of a lot more?
