How would Kick Ass be considered a bomb when it made $18 million more than what it cost in the US alone ?

Well the point of this was they made more overseas than they cost even if they lost in the USA. Why include movies that made more in the USA alone ? By this logic every single movie ever made is a flop, just some aren't because they made money.

Thanks Afro,
I probably just should have copied the whole article so it made more sense.

The usual rule I heard was that a movie is considered a financial flop, if it fails to at least double its initial investment. That may sound odd, but it's thought that way, because there's only so many resources a studio has, and to double the money isn't seen as a big win

And it's understandable that the studios want a relatively big return. After at least a few years of work on a movie, it's not a good result if they just made as much money as they spent.
